Mumbai : The much-anticipated trailer of Shyam Benegal’s monumental film, “Mujib,” is out. The cinematic masterpiece serves as a biographical tribute to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the towering legend of Bangladesh.

The trailer immerses viewers into the tumultuous era of political upheaval when Bangladesh, then East Pakistan, asserted its independence through a full-scale war with Pakistan.

Mujib – The Making of a Nation, a biographical film about Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, documents the journey of one of modern history’s greatest leaders. As Bangladesh’s first President, he was popularly known as Bangabandhu, which means ‘Friend of Bengal,’ and is regarded as a towering figure who played a significant role in determining the fate of his country, Bangladesh.

A battle fought on many levels – culture, politics, language and ideology. The creation of Bangladesh is the pinnacle of Bangabandhu’s achievement. Yet, like in classical Greek drama, this triumph ends in personal tragedy; a sacrifice paid in blood for creating a free nation for his people.

Crafted from a compelling story and screenplay by Shama Zaidi & Atul Tiwari, the film is a collaborative production of the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation and India’s National Film Development Corporation, under Audio Visual Co-Production Agreement between the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of People’s Republic of Bangladesh & the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India

“Mujib” unfolds the saga of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s life and political convictions, instrumental in the creation of Bangladesh. The narrative spans his leadership during the 1971 independence struggle to the challenges he faced as the nation’s first head.

The stellar cast includes Arifin Shuvoo in the title role, Nusrat Imrose Tisha, Nusraat Faria, Chanchal Chowdhury, Riaz Ahmed, Fazlur Rahman Babu, Tauquir Ahmed, and a special appearance by Siam Ahmed. Akashdeep Pandey handled the cinematography, while National award winner Aseem Sinha expertly edited the film. With action sequences orchestrated by Sham Kaushal, art direction by Vishnu Nishad, production design by Nitish Roy, Costume designs by Pia Benegal and soul-stirring music by Shantanu Moitra, “Mujib” stands as an example of cinematic excellence.

Shyam Benegal shared his insights, stating, “The film not only reflects the towering personality that was Bangabandhu, but we have also tried to portray the contemporary historical events as authentically as possible. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is not only a legend but the man behind the birth of a nation. I have tried to capture these historical moments with much sincerity. I am sure this film will resonate with everybody.”

Expressing gratitude, Prithul Kumar, Managing Director of the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), remarked, “This is one of the most important films to be releasing this year. Sheikh Mujib was one of the most significant figures in the history of the Indian subcontinent. This film will not only showcase an important period of Bangladesh’s history but also the sacrifices the freedom fighters made at that point under the leadership of Bangabandhu. We are grateful for the opportunity to associate with this film.”

The film is slated to releases in India & Internationally in Hindi and Bengali on October 27, 2023. Panorama Studios International will distribute the film worldwide.
