The first six months of 2022 saw the releases of many big-budgeted and star-oriented films but the audience showed a major change in taste post-pandemic. While the South films became a huge rage in this time with the humongous success of RRR and KGF 2, Hindi films struggled to find their footing.
Amongst the Hindi films, only Gangubai Kathiawadi, The Kashmir Files and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 set the cash registers ringing. In this, while, the industry saw the rise of a new superstar in Kartik Aaryan and Alia Bhatt solidifying her position as one of the most successful leading actresses, but it was The Kashmir Files that became a case study in itself.
The path-breaking collection of the film established Kher as one of the finest global actor. He proved that he has the commercial power to attract the audiences. Even big names like Akshay Kumar, who came with 2 big releases in Bachchhan Paandey and Prithviraj, and Ajay Devgn who came with Runway 34 alongside Amitabh Bachchan, couldn’t help revive the Hindi film business but he did.
Pre-pandemic, these were the stars that guaranteed box office success but in today’s time, audiences showed that they have changed. By grossing over Rs 250 crore in India itself, The Kashmir Files emerged as the biggest success story for Hindi films this year by now, making Kher the highest grossing star of the first half of 2022.
