Faridabad News, 24 May 2021 : With the blessings almighty, having constant encouragement of our Honorable Chancellor Dr. Picheshwar Gadde and Honorable Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. A.R Dubey, a webinar on Socio-Legal Importance of Women’s Safety & Gender Sensitization was organized on 22nd May, 2021 by School of law, Lingaya’s Vidyapeeth, Faridabad under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Radheshyam Prasad, Dean, School of Law.
Objectives of the event:
Objective of this event was to understand the socio-legal importance of women safety and gender sensitization in present scenario and to arrive its possible solutions.
About the speaker of the webinar:
Adv. Chitra Saxena Nagpal is an eminent academician, who is currently working as Assistant Professor, School of law, GITAM University, Visakhapatnam was the main speaker. She also has 12 years of litigation experience before joining the academia. She has done her bachelor degree in Political Science from Lady Shri Ram College for women, Delhi University, LL.B. degree from Delhi University and LL.M. from GGSIPU, Delhi. She also received PG diploma in field of ADR & Corporate Law from Indian Law Institute, Delhi.
Description: During the Webinar Guest Speaker mentioned about how gender discrimination happens in our society & explained how sex is different from gender. She mentioned about the legislature contribution with regard to the women’s safety under the constitution, various penal laws, special legislations on women, Information Technology law. She also discussed about the International framework & norms for upliftment of women’s safety all over the globe. Women Specific Legislation like Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961 & Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 etc. Special protection given to the children under the POSCO act was also discussed. Various practical aspect of society with regards to women discrimination were discussed & possible solution to these problems were also discussed in the webinar.
Program: The webinar was conducted through google meet. The link was circulated among students and faculty members of different institutions. The webinar was attended by 65 participants. In the beginning Mr Ish Preet Singh, Assistant Professor welcomed Guests & all the participants. Then participants were addressed by honourable Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) A.R Dubey before the guest speaker and enlightened the virtual gathering with his words. After the guest address, Dr. Radheshyam Prasad, Dean, School of Law, addressed the participants with his enlightening words. At the end vote of thanks was given by Ms Shrabani Kar, Assistant Professor, School of law.
Event Outcomes: Participant were able to understand practical aspects related of the issue. They also got to understand the various dimensions of the gender discrimination. Participant also got aware about the International & National framework relate with offences against women & gender discrimination. Many thought provoking questions were asked by the students and audience and eloquently answered by the resource person.
