Faridabad News, 23 January 2020 : With the view to create awareness on the significance of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), the Department of Computer Engineering of J.C. Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA, Faridabad today organized One-day Workshop for Start-ups and MSMEs of Faridabad which was sponsored by Patent Information Centre of Haryana State Council for Science and Technology (HSCST). The main objective of this workshop was to increase the awareness of patent filing process and its various aspects.
Chairman of Iamsmeofindia Mr. Rajive Chawla was the chief guest and keynote speaker of the workshop which was presided over by Registrar Dr. S.K. Garg. Chairperson of Computer Engineering Department Dr. Komal Kumar and Chairperson of Computer Application Department Dr. Atul Mishra were also present on this occasion. The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Parul Tomar and Dr. Rashmi Popli. The workshop was attended by students and representatives of MSMEs.
Mr. Chawla discussed about the problem faced by SMEs in filing patents and copyrights. He encouraged the students and young entrepreneurs to file patents and copyrights to protect their Intellectual Property Rights.
Applauding the initiative taken by the Department of Computer Engineering for the awareness of Intellectual Property Rights, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar said that with the increasing relevance of Intellectual Property (IP) in the era of technological advancement, it has become necessary to protect Intellectual Property Rights to ensure the economic development and intellectual growth of the country.
The first session was taken by Dr. Rahul Taneja, Scientist at Department of Science and Technology, Haryana. He started with the basics of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) and covered many topics like description of the different components of IPR with latest examples including importance of IPR for entrepreneurs, trademark, copyrights, benefits or trade secrets and patent.
Later, Dr. Ashwani Siwal, who is Assistant Professor in Intellectual Property Laws at Delhi University, discussed about the patentability criteria as laid down in the Patent Act and various legal aspects of IPR.
