New Delhi News, 02 Dec 2019 : A group exhibition of 18 of the finest artists in India, bringing together different mediums to showcase the Life and Learning of Guru Nanak

Gallerie Nvya is one of the largest and most dynamic art galleries in India. It has two main areas of focus: showcasing substantial works of masters and senior artists, along with recognition and encouragement of young new talent. In lieu of the 550th birthday of Guru Nanak, the gallery has organized one of its kind group exhibitions of some of the finest artists in India “My Nanak” from 23rd November to 23rd December 2019. The exhibition is a tribute to the foundation he laid for the unbeatable spirit of the Sikhs, his preachings about freedom and equality for all in India, a country exploited and suffering under the tyrannical rule and a repressive caste system. In his own lifetime he was committed to and established initiatives challenging the inequalities of race, religion, caste, and gender within Indian society – such as free kitchens or Langar (which were open to all) and education for females. His teachings were way ahead of his times and are extremely relevant even today.

The exhibition is bringing together 18 of the finest artists who have spent months together, creating their pieces on Guru Nanak for this exhibition specifically. The exhibition focuses on the artist’s vision of Guru Nanak and their interpretation of his life, learnings, and journey. Tripat Kalra, Founder Director of Gallerie Nvya explains why this exhibition and now, “ My fondest memory of Guru Nanak are based on the teachings of my parents gave me as a child. This exhibition is a personal tribute to Guru Nanak ji and his teachings, his way of life. This is a tribute to my childhood learning.”

The artists who are part of this exhibition are Aditya Basak, Arpana Caur, Dr Seema Bhalla, Gurpreet Singh, Harmeet Rattan, Jaspreet Singh, Jayasri Burman, K.S Radhakrishnan, Manjot Kaur, Paresh Maity, Raghu Vyas, Satish Gupta, Seema Kohli, Shipra Bhattacharya, Shuvaprasanna, Sidharth, Singh twins, and Suman Gupta.

The artists have worked together to depict the simplicity and beauty in Nanak’s life, his learnings, his lifestyle and how things as simple as his aarti’s created an impact on people’s lives. The artists will be using different mediums to depict their interpretations, Canvas, Paper, Bronze, Fibre, New media and much more.

Aparna Caur will be exhibiting 3 of her paintings exhibiting the love Guru Nanak felt for nature, “Saints are Green”, “Sultanpur Lodhi”, and “Naam”. Avijit Dutta’s painting “Sacred Roses” is an attempt on behalf of the artist to capture the essence of Nanak’s rich and fragrant life. Satish Gupta’s painting “Blessing” is his interpretation of Guru Nanak’s message of peace and harmony, the matrix of Ek Onkar representing one supreme reality. Harmeet Ratan took inspiration from one of the aarti’s “Gagan mah thaal, Rav-chand Deepak Baney Taarka mandal Janak Moti Dhoop maliaanlo Pavan chavaro Karey Sagal Banrai phoolant Jyoti, which basically translates to the sky is your platter and the celestial bodies dishes. Manjot Kaur’s piece of art is an absurd and imaginative intervention to portray the sixteenth stanza of Japji Saheb. Nabibaksh Mansoori’s painting reflects God as the eternal truth. Dr. Seema Bhalla has done 3 paintings focusing on Guru Nanak Ji’s journeys and his travel to foreign lands in search of the truth. Suman Gupta’s art “Baba Nanak” focuses evokes the mythic and mystical relationship Guru Nanak shared with Birds and animals. Seema Kohli has done a painting based on an aarti by Guru Nanak “Gagan Mein Thaal”. The Singh Twins painted “Na Koi Hindu, Na Koi Mussalman”, this artwork represents an artistic visualization of one of Guru Nanak Ji’s first spiritual revelations. Gurmeet Marwah’s painting ‘Aar Nanak Paar Nanak’ depicts that Nanak is omnipresent.

This exhibition is one of it’s kind as this is the first time there will be so many interpretations of Guru Nanak under one roof.
