Faridabad News, 03 Feb 2019 : The Theme State – Maharashtra is participating in the 33rd Surajkund International Crafts Mela 2019 with much enthusiasm and vigour. The artists from Maharashtra are setting the stage for a cultural fest unlike any. Many renowned artists and artisans have come here to showcase their masterpieces.
Sanjay Chintu Rajad from Palghar practises the traditional craft of Warli Painting. One of the most interesting things about his masterpieces is that the base of the paintings are made from using coal, ash and clay on which his creations take shape using poster colours. Explaining his art Sanjay said, “My paintings depict the true art of Maharashtra and the paintings are traditionally used to decorate homes during marriages, Diwali etc and I spend hours carefully painting these scenes everyday”. From Classical ‘Tarpa Dance’ to the ‘Tree of Life’ all the paintings have fascinating tales and emotions captured on a simple canvas.
Praful Mohale from Nagpur is another gifted artist exhibiting his metal work creations. Colourful and eye-catching, these decoration items made from metal are sure to attract many buyers. From frames to cut outs depicting nature and beautiful traditional ceremonies, these works of art are made to leave a lasting impression on the visitors.
For those looking for authentic cotton and silk clothes from Maharashtra, Mr. Abdullah from Latur has much to offer. He has a wide range of exquisite cotton and silk sarees, dress materials and suits with mesmerising block prints and textures. As he states ‘these clothes are traditional yet very contemporary and we have a wide choice to suit every taste’.
Many organisations who help promote traditional and languishing art and crafts have put up their stalls in the mela like Mahila Arthik Vikas Mandal and Tejasvini Loksanchalit Sadhan Kendra. These organisations help rural artists, particularly women by showcasing their handicrafts and handloom products through fairs and exhibitions around the world. The beauty of these products lies in their simplicity. There are shirts, silk sarees, bamboo products and hand embroidery depicting rural life to choose from.
Apart from crafts and handlooms, Mahrashtra is making its presence felt with vibrant cultural performances, the Lavani Dancers particularly are one of the favourites amongst the audience. Many other performers and dancers from the state are spread across the mela grounds and entertaining the visitors with the colours of Maharashtra. Not to miss, the food court where authentic Maharashtrian dishes are being served. Amongst all the lip smacking cuisines, Vada Pav is impressing food lovers with its tantalizing taste.
