New Delhi News, 03 March 2020 : The art practice of artist Bharti Prajapati bears a distinct edge. While the core form of her work reflects her art background, the overall effect moves beyond artistic boundaries into the space of design. This is because the artist is both an artist and craftsperson who uses both sensibilities in her creations. Thus the canvas portrays artistic creativity engineered with a charming repetitiveness.

The subject of her paintings reflects her fascination with the many roles that women play, Bharti chisels their forms into statuesque proportions, using the brush as her crafting tool. The repetitive use of a monotone overall, gives the entire image a rhythmic patterning, making for a unique end product.

In her latest exhibition titled ‘Earth Story,’ the artist resurrects a repertoire of rural sensibilities even as she propagates the idea that the universe is made of the five elemental things in nature. She concretises this philosophy in her art by showing their presence in our bodily forms, the Earth our Mother and the Cosmos overhead. Thereafter she infuses her feminine forms in a harmonic rhythm within the canvas space.

The potential of colour usage is taken to a new level through a cosmos of colours, not as a blending of hues but as distinct segments of colour shadings, wherein each colour is given a definite space.

This veteran artist has received accolades for her unique artistic style from many quarters, particularly through her one-man shows and group shows that have been held in Mumbai, Singapore, New York, London and several prestigious platforms in India. Her works go beyond art platforms and have found space at the Lakme Art and Fashion Show as also the Harmony Show among others.

Rural women often dominate Bharti’s paintings. Roles of the women and their bonding with the surrounding has been her constant source of inspiration and vocabulary. Her extensive travel to the villages of India creates bonds beyond her practice. This connection keeps her abreast with transformations taking place in a rural milieu. The endeavour is to resurrect a repertoire of rural sensibilities, some of what is fast-moving in oblivion.
