Inauguration of Avoidable Blindness Project centre at Shree Jeevan Hospital to give Free Eye Treatment and Free Cataract Surgeries to needy people by Rotary Club of New Delhi

New Delhi News, 25 Aug 2021 : With the aim to Avoidable  blindness, The Rotary Club of New Delhi tied up with two senior doctors Dr. Vijay Sabharwal & Dr. Ankita Sabharwal and Shree Jeewan Hospital, Karol Bagh to undertake  free cataract  surgeries and  sponsoring high-quality lenses for the underprivileged. Under this programme Rotary club of New Delhi will be providing free eye care and Cataract Surgeries many Patients have already taken the advantage of it

This is under the purview of its flagship programme launched by Mr Anup Mittal, District Governor whose mission is to see villages free of blindness. Commenting upon the programme, he stated, “This programme is close to my heart and it has been heartwarming to see our members working tirelessly for the cause. The gift of vision can be the greatest of all”

India has about 12 million blind, one-third of the world’s blind population. During the Covid-19 pandemic, cataract surgeries were not taking place for the underprivileged. The Club’s Project Coordinator Mr. Pran Mehta intended to help in such a situation.

Mr. Vir Philips signed an MoU to facilitate 100 cataract surgeries till December along with free eye camp for schools whenever they reopen. He stated, ‘We are looking forward to more collaborations that can aid more surgeries and free checkups. I believe that everyone’s life becomes more meaningful if they are able to bring a positive change in someone’s life.’

True to its mantra for this year, ‘Serve to change lives’, the Club aims to extend the programme’s outreach and encourage more people to contribute to the noble cause.
